Today was tilt-up day for Victory Station. Well, the first tilt-up day. With 117 panels to tilt, this will take more than one day. We’re estimating the Devcon Construction team can tilt 25 panels a day, so we’re looking at five tilt-up days if all goes as planned.

Why is this exciting? It’s the first day where many who drive by actually notice that there’s a building going up. It starts taking shape. The concrete panels that have been poured and shaped on the ground are being lifted and carefully put into place by a massive crane and a huge team of workers.

I never cease to be amazed at how the crew works together seamlessly, each worker focused on a specific task, but all in concert with the same goal in mind.  It’s not a simple task to manage a crane lifting a panel of concrete weighing 50,000 pounds or more into an exact position, then secure it with massive steel poles. It’s really a fascinating process.

Tilt-up is an innovative construction method, with many benefits to consider. This 250,000 square foot building that will be Victory Station is a large project, and tilt-up construction makes the building process faster, safer, more efficient,  and in the end makes the building easier to maintain as well as more fire-safe.  But, more about that later.  Today, we celebrate our first tilt-up day!
